Ellen Maslow, Ph.DEllen Maslow, Ph.D

Psychotherapist and Social Activist

Ellen Maslow feels it is appropriate to expect the therapeutic process to actually help, "Shamans and healers help cure people in other cultures, so why not expect therapists to help cure us in this culture?" she asks.

Since many people come into therapy with physical symptoms, Ellen has developed a holistic approach and, when appropriate, works closely with medical doctors and healers in other disciplines, as well as trauma specialists.

Ellen's father, Abraham Maslow, a well-known humanistic psychologist, has been an influence throughout her life. "I believe that I am expanding his theories and vision into actual work with people where it is most needed," she says. Her work in the 1960s with the antiwar and civil rights movements and her own practice of meditation are other ingredients that make up her unique style.

For many years, Ellen has been leading groups for men and women. "Anger and fear from past experiences are acted out between men and women in our adult lives and can prevent contact and trust from happening. We can remove some of these obstacles to intimacy by helping each other see and talk about what we are projecting on each other," reflects Ellen.

She has also concentrated on relationships, trauma and chronic illness. Ellen has extensive experience working with male and female survivors of incest and other forms of abuse. She works individually and with groups, and on occasion use hypnosis as a tool for retrieving buried memories and emotions.

Another huge part of Ellen's current life is her organization called Rocky Dialogs. This tax exempt (501c3) organization has a mission to create community and stimulate dialog in Boulder, on relevant, contemporary issues.

With Public Forums, and a community gathering the day after 9-11, have been produced at the Boulder Theatre. The Present Tense Film Soiree has been produced by Rocky Dialogs since June '02, mostly at the Nomad Theatre. We are seeking funding to expand and enhance our ability to bring non-partisan dialogue to Boulder.
